Probitas was founded in Suriname in 2013, with the primary purpose of increasing the self-reliance of our citizens in this digital era. We started out installing computers at schools, to support current learning methods, and quickly became a go to adress concerning IT and education, with special attention for the interior area of Suriname. By now, both schools and the government know where to find us in case of computer issues and we have expanded our work greatly. We currently focus on hardware installation, network engineering and development of 21st century skills.

NATIN
What sets us apart is our intensive collaboration with the Surinamese Institute of Natural Resources and Engineering Studies (NATIN). Probitas is a recognized training company for NATIN's IT students. Their education is competence-based, which means mandatory practical experience and assignments. At NATIN itself or during an internship it's not always possible to gain all the needed practical experience, whilst Probitas performs such activities regularly and could really use the help. Together we can do a lot more and keep the costs for schools low to none. We created a true win-win situation for all parties involved, which makes a major contribution to the IT development of Suriname.
STREAM
The Probitas foundation focus is also on STREAM education. By organizing STREAMING Saturdays in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MOESC). The STREAMING Saturdays 2020 will be held on every primary school in Suriname and is a spin off of the BE-STREAMING vacation camps. The BE-STREAMING vacation camps from MOESC were coordinated in four different school sites in Suriname including Saramacca, Wanica,  Paramaribo and Marowijne to continue the promotion of the excitement for BE-STREAMING to more communities.

 

ITIS stands for Information Technology in Suriname and is currently Probitas’ main focal point. In this digital era we live in, everyone deserves an opportunity to develop digital skills and use a computer and the internet to their own advantage. Unfortunately not everyone here has this opportunity and that’s exactly what Probitas wants to change with ITIS, starting with our education system.

  • showcase of modern techniques such as: 3D printing, robotics, virtual reality

What we would like to do in the future:

  • create a helpdesk at NATIN to provide maintenance and support to all Surinamese schools
  • develope educational software, especially for Surinamese youth
  • organize a roadshow that brings modern technology to the interior area of Suriname
